What do we offer?

What do we offer? - St. Clemens Boys' Choir

Fast paced lessons, presence and many social activities are at the centre of our wonderful choir.

To sing in a boy’s choir gives an experience of a lifetime. You will become a part of a community where singing classical music on a highest level with some of the country’s best musicians goes hand in hand with an amazing comradeship, across all age boarders.

‘You become friends outside the choir too’

Oliver, age 12

The youngest boys in the choir are 8-9 years old, while the oldest are around 60. When we sing together, we are one choir, and when we go on tour, we travel as one flock, as you can see on the pictures from some of our trips.

‘You have to try it because it’s lots of fun and not at all boring to be in a choir. After having been to 2-3 lessons you will be hooked!’

Malte, age 13

It is never boring to show up for lessons Wednesday afternoons from 14-17.45, Skolegade 17, where the choir resides.

Lessons

When you sing in a boys’ choir, you will learn how to sing both alone and with others. The lessons consist of many elements which create movement and fast change, so you won’t have to sit still on a chair for very long at a time.

Apart from instruction in solo singing by trained vocal coaches, lessons will consist of ear training and music theory. You can apply this if you play an instrument or if you later on occupy yourself with music. We sing songs from around the world which will give you an insight into choral singing in various different languages – Latin, German, English and French, just to mention a few of them.

‘You don’t just sing. We also play, fight, and play ball and a lot of other stuff’

Alexander, age 13

We highly value a pace change in the lessons, because we are well aware of the fact that staying put for a long time, like you do in school, can be somewhat of a challenge, consequently there are many physical exercises and activity in between, and the breaks usually consist of a ball game.

There is always something to look forward to because the choir hosts many concerts throughout the year, furthermore you can make some pocket money by singing a few Sundays a year in Aarhus Cathedral.

The Community

We put as much import on the social side of the choir as on the theoretical part of it. Which is why there are many activities, like for example study trips to other choirs here in Denmark but also abroad.

‘When we visit other choirs, we stay with them, which is a way to make friends from both around the world and Denmark’

Karl, age 11

The boys’ parents are very good at giving support to the choir and take an active part in the community surrounding the choir. From driving the children from and to concerts, writing applications to foundations to raise money for study trips to backing cakes.

All in all, the combination of the professional coaching and our social community is the driving force behind the fact that you want to show up for lessons, Wednesday after Wednesday, year in and year out.
